At The Divergent School Harborough, we believe every child deserves a curriculum that inspires curiosity, builds confidence, and prepares them for life. Every student is valued as an individual, and our flexible, personalised approach ensures that each learner is supported to make progress, achieve their goals, and develop independence.

Our curriculum is creative and meaningful, helping children connect their learning to the real world. We place strong emphasis on Independence ,Belonging , Curiosity ,Compassion values that sit at the heart of everything we do. By combining high-quality teaching, therapeutic approaches, and a nurturing environment, we enable our pupils to thrive both academically and personally.

What makes our approach unique is the way compassion and expertise are woven into daily life at the school. Whatever the situation—whether planning lessons, supporting families, or responding to a child in distress—our first duty is always to show compassion. From this foundation, we encourage curiosity and use our understanding of how children learn to shape every decision.

Therapeutic support is integrated into the fabric of school life. While we provide direct Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT), these sessions are only the beginning. Our entire curriculum and school environment are systemically shaped by therapeutic principles, supporting communication, well-being, and personal growth throughout the day.

We are proud of our qualified and experienced team. Every member of staff has at least two years’ experience working in SEND and shares our belief in compassion-first practice. Lessons are always delivered by qualified teachers, ensuring that students receive both the expertise and the care they deserve.

Our curriculum covers the full national curriculum but is delivered through engaging, half-termly themes rather than traditional subjects. This thematic approach makes learning more connected and accessible, while every lesson is designed with a range of options so that all children can participate in ways that build on their strengths.

The Divergent School Harborough is intentionally small and friendly, offering a calm and welcoming environment. Classrooms are consistent in their design, with neutral walls, cosy spaces, and flexible seating such as wiggle chairs; creating a familiar setting where children feel safe to be themselves.

We also offer a hybrid model of provision. While our nurturing special school environment is the foundation, pupils who are ready can access mainstream facilities with our support. This allows them to develop confidence in areas of strength while still benefiting from the security of our specialist setting.

Our aims are clear: we want every student to enjoy learning and feel proud of their achievements; to build the confidence needed for safe, happy, and healthy lives; to develop essential skills for independence; and to be fully prepared for their future; whether that means further education, training, supported or independent living, or employment.
