Working Together

Student Dress Code

Student Dress Code

At The Divergent School Harborough, we understand that each student is unique. Our approach continues to celebrate individual learning styles and provide the time, support, and encouragement every student needs to thrive; academically, socially, and emotionally.

We value the role families play in a child’s success. Our school encourages open communication between home and school, and we’re here to work alongside you every step of the way.

At The Divergent School Harborough, we use Class Dojo as our main home school communication tool.

This platform will allow your child’s class team to share daily story updates, giving you a window into their learning experiences and classroom activities. It’s a fantastic way to stay connected, celebrate progress, and support your child’s journey through school. Families are able to message school staff directly with any queries or concerns via the Class Dojo messaging app.

Why We Have a Dress Code

We want everyone at school to feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. What we wear should help us focus, show respect for ourselves and others, and keep things fair and welcoming for all students.

Clothing at The Divergent School
At present, we do not have a formal school uniform. We understand that some clothing can feel uncomfortable and may affect a student’s ability to focus and learn. However, we do have a dress code in place to ensure that all students are dressed appropriately for the school day.

We also recommend keeping a change of clothes at school for activities such as gardening in the allotment or sports sessions, to ensure you are comfortable and prepared for all parts of their day

What You Can Wear

  • T shirts, blouses, polos, and button up shirts.
  • Jeans, leggings, joggers, skirts, and shorts that      that fit properly and cover you. (mid-thigh or longer).
  • Dresses and skirts that are about mid-thigh or      longer.
  • Comfortable shoes ; Trainers, flats, boots   anything safe for walking. (Closed toe      shoes are needed at the allotment, park and for PE)
  • Hoodies and sweaters are okay, but please keep      hoods down when asked.
  • Hats or sunglasses can be worn outside

What’s Not Okay to Wear

  • Clothes that show underwear, like bra straps or      waistbands, or large holes in inappropriate places.
  • Muscle shirts or cut offs that show too much skin.
  • Pyjamas, blankets or slippers (unless it’s a themed      dress up day).
  • Tops that are too low cut or show your stomach.
  • See through clothes.
  • Very short shorts or skirts.
  • Clothes with rude words, mean messages, or anything      about drugs, alcohol, or violence.
  • Hats or sunglasses inside (unless needed for      medical or religious reasons).

A Few More Things to Know

  • You can wear jewellery, makeup, or hairstyles that      make you feel good—as long as they’re safe and not distracting.
  • If a teacher talks to you about your clothes,      they’ll do it respectfully and privately.
  • No one should be treated differently because of how      their clothes fit.
  • Dress code      rules apply to everyone no one should feel picked on because of      their size or style.

Be You ;  Respect Others

You don’t have to hide who you are! The dress code is just about helping everyone feel comfortable, focused, and respected at school.

Be Yourself ; Dress for Success

School is a place to learn, grow, and be proud of who you are. The dress code is here to make sure everyone feels comfortable and respected.
